Miro Is Pretty As Well

Matai loves to be told things that make him feel special and loved. So the other day, I was telling him he was beautiful, and did he know that he was beautiful?

He smiled his little smile that showed me he was happy with that, but then said very firmly:

"Miro is pretty As Well."

I didn't even know he knew the phrase "as well" and have never heard him say "pretty" either. But Miro and Tai are always sharing things with each other, so I guess that extends to compliments too.

My Love You Every Day (And Please Come To My Birthday)

Miro loves to make up songs as he sings around the house, and this one was so sweet that I had to take down all the words. So here it is... Miro's first song.

"MY LOVE YOU ALL DAY (And Please Come To My Birthday)"
by MIVO

My really do love you

If you were in danger
My'd save you
And my do love you all day...

And if you fell in the sea
My'd help you
And my do love you all day...

Being in the Present

Matai is such a sweet little soul and lately has been feeling a bit left out, with all the attention that goes to his little brothers. So this week, on the morning that we have together, I tried again to quiz him on what he would best like to do with his day, foreseeing that we could do something special together.

Being just before breakfast, he said "porridge".

I said "yes you can have porridge, but what would you like to do after porridge?"

"Porridge!" he said again. This happened a few times before I realised that Matai simply would not think beyond what he wanted best now - his breakfast. I can learn a lot from this little tiger - just stop thinking about the rest of the day, and let's enjoy breakfast!

New Top

I'd bought a new top and Miro walked into the bedroom and saw me wearing it.

"Wow Mummy, how booful are you?" he said, impressed.

What a smoothie!

Later on he made me laugh when he asked me to turn the television on for him. I was doing about a hundred things at once, trying to cook dinner and feed Bastien all at the same time. I said I'd do those things and then turn the TVon after.

Some minutes later, of course I'd forgotten to turn the TV on. Miro came into the kitchen and said:

"Mummy, if you don't come and turn the TV on right now, I... (searching for something bad enough)... I won't take you to the Princess Show!"

I had no idea what the Princess Show was but I couldn't stop laughing anyhow. The TV went on quick smart!

If You Could Do Anything Today...

Miro is at preschool today and I wanted to do something special with Matai. So I asked him what he would like to do today. Some ideas I had were to go to the park, bake a cake, or find a playgroup somewhere where he could play with the toys and other kids.

Faced with such limitless possibilities, his little two year old mind had to consider these in good time. So he sat there saying "Ummm......" while trying to decide. What did Matai want to do today, this special day that would never again be repeated?

Finally he said:"Ummm.... iPad."

Aargh !!

On Knowing Everything

Whenever I profess to be amazed at something Miro has said, he looks over at me with a nonchalant smile and says:

"Don't you know Mummy? My know everything!"

Some Things That Made Me Smile

Recently heard falling from Miro's mouth...

***

We were at the beach, when Miro said:

"Look at the colour of the water Mummy! The colour is very beautiful!"

I replied:

"It is beautiful. Would you like to live by the beach Miro?"

"Oh yes," Miro replied. "But how will we get our house here?"

***

Miro wandered into the kitchen after eating fish fingers for dinner, a mixed expression on his face.

"How do they get fish fingers Mummy?" he asked, making a sawing motion on his own fingers.

***

Miro had decided that he desperately wanted to talk to his cousin Bennett, and had been mentioning him for two days. Finally I said "Do you want to call him?"

"Oh yes!" said Miro.

So I dialled the number, found Bennett and passed over the phone.

"Bennett!" I heard Miro exclaiming on the phone as I walked away. "I've been worried about you!"

***

Miro and I were talking about something where I mentioned that I had been a little girl once, and was now a woman, and would one day be an old woman.

Miro doesn't like to hear about growing up into an old person, and a look of panic crossed his face. He grabbed my cheeks between his two hands and kissed me and said:

"Don't grow into an old lady Mummy! I love you just the way you are."

Growing Up

Miro: "When you grow into a little boy Mummy, I'm going to give you all my toys."
